grateful for a day off...

I'm up late enjoying everyone else being asleep.   And I have the day off tomorrow, so I'm not feeling as stressed as I usually do on Sunday evenings!

So speaking of the day off... I haven't really thought a lot about Martin Luther King, Jr. in years past.  I didn't study much about him in school and he was killed when I was too young to know what was going on.   In fact, when we first started honoring his life and his work when I was in college, I felt bad for Lincoln and Washington because (in most places) their individual days were combined into one Presidents' Day and ML King got his own day.   But I am so appreciateive of his work and his dream.  I was fortunate:  I grew up with parents and in an area supportive of integration.  My parents actually had me bused to a predominantly black school because they had an excellent educational program--this was in the early years of magnet schools in the early 1970s.   I'm grateful for the risk my parents took to provide this opportunity.  I'm grateful for the risks that Martin Luther King took to make this country a place in which I  had that opportunity.   I was able to grow up in an environment unheard of by even a generation or two before mine.   Thank you, Dr. King.

new motivation

my sister and her husband are so fun!  The first day of school she and her husband realized that the high school bus that her sophomore son rides to school passes by their house.  So what do they do?  They go out and wave!  Way to embarass that 15 year old!!  But wait, it gets better!  They decide that Dad will wave every day!!   In crazy hats and accessories!!   Soooo...  soon a blog of their morning wave is made...  and now I'm checking their blog every day... and now I'm realizing that I never update my blog... so why have a blog?

creativity

This past week a few long-time friends reminded me that I was creative... or at least when we hung out YEARS ago, they knew me as a very creative person. I think I need to be creative again... not in "crafty" ways, but in other ways such as balancing family, work, church, and happiness! yep, that takes a lot of creativity!!

and another thing that takes a bit of time and uses the creative side of my brain is posting on here...nine months since my last post... maybe I'll re-motivate myself...

may gray

living in coastal Southern California, you get used to the terms "may gray" and "june gloom"... just those clouds that hang over the area and act as natural air conditioning... I love 'em !!

but also with May this year is a bit of gray in my life... just seems like I can't catch up... on sleep, on paperwork, at my jobs, with my kids, with friends, at church, with laundry, with email, ugh!!... it is just so overwhelming sometimes...

I guess I should feel okay... got my may post here on my blog =)

so goes my gray life... my may gray...
